I am trying to put a positive spin on this.
Following the shame of the whaling support below, I'll try to look for the pluses this time.
The only point I can make, is regards this quote from Environment Minister Cristobal Sequeira:
"I cannot believe it,. I thought we had stopped that.
"These people are poor. They don't understand that we are trying to attract eco-tourists and that those tourists want to see Nicaragua's beauty.
"When we tell the poachers that they could get real jobs in the tourism industry, they don't see it's in their interests to leave the birds alone. They want quick money."
In the last country I lived in, the Vietnamese counterpart would have said something along the lines of:
"Ah, so where can I buy them? I hear they make very good soup. Also their intestines, if boiled up and added to rice wine, will...how should I say it..put lead in your pencil. Ha ha. Make you strong"
But sad, all the same. I've been Granada-based since my arrival but I'm dying to get out there and see some Nica wildlife. Let's hope it'll still be there.
